Umberto Zannier

Nato a Spilimbergo (PN) il 25 maggio 1957.
Laurea in Matematica a Pisa; Allievo e poi Perfezionando presso la Scuola.
Ricercatore a Padova, Professore Associato a Salerno e Professore Ordinario all'Università IUAV di Venezia.
Professore Ordinario di Geometria alla Scuola Normale dal 2004.
I suoi principali interessi di ricerca riguardano la Teoria dei Numeri e in particolare la Geometria Diofantea, l'Approssimazione Diofantea, la Teoria Algebrica e Aritmetica dei Polinomi, l'Aritmetica delle successioni ricorrenti lineari.
E' stato conferenziere principale al convegno biennale in Teoria dei Numeri "Journèes Arithmetiques" (Graz 2003), "Invited Speaker" al "IV European Congress of Mathematics" (Stockholm, 2004) e conferenziere alla Giornata Indam 2008.
Ha trascorso periodi di studio presso svariati istituti e università tra cui l'Institute for Advanced Study a Princeton e l'Institut Henri Poincarè a Parigi.
Dal 2004, socio non residente dell'Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti. Medaglia per la Matematica per il 2005 dell'Accademia Nazionale delle Scienze detta dei XL. Dal 2006 socio dell'Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei.
